Information management, data and GIS.

Nibor NEXT helps governments and businesses get their data, applications, geo-information and agreements on ownership in order, with a specialism in public space management.

(01) Who it is for

For organisations where information is spread across departments, systems and teams, and where it is unclear who is responsible for what. Think of municipalities, other public bodies and businesses that want to steer better on data and want to introduce or replace applications.

(02)

What we do

We start with the question from the business: what information do you need to decide and to manage? Then we look at data and systems. We work on four subjects:

  • Data quality: which data you record, by whom, and how you check it
  • Applications: which systems you have, which overlap and what you really need
  • Standardisation: the same terms and way of working in every team
  • Control and ownership: who decides on which data and systems

We also help teams use data in decision-making: which questions you want to answer, which data you need for them and how you present them to the people who decide.

(03)

GIS strategy

We do not build GIS. We help choose how geo-information is recorded, linked and used in the organisation, so that management, planning and decision-making work from the same map.

  • Geo-information policy: a shared view of what the map must do and for whom.
  • Connected layers: key registers, managed assets, condition and planning that fit together.
  • Choices in the landscape: what sits in the central GIS, what in management systems, and how they exchange data.
  • Agreements on geodata: ownership, quality and currency per layer.

We work with the standards that apply in Dutch public space: BGT, BAG, IMGeo, IMBOR, NEN 3610 and NEN 2767.

Specialism: public space management

Managing roads, green space, water and structures requires good information. Founder Robin Kroonenberg led the digitalisation of public space management at the City of Amsterdam as senior information manager. We now apply that experience beyond Amsterdam too.

We help with:

  • Information management for asset management: data, management applications, standardisation, control and ownership
  • Condition assessment to NEN 2767
  • Guidance in introducing asset management software
NEN 2767
A Dutch standard for measuring the condition of objects in a consistent way. Inspectors assess defects by the same rules and give the condition a score, so objects and years can be compared and maintenance can be justified.
IMBOR
CROW's information model for public space management. One shared language for data on objects in public space.
BGT
The Dutch Large-Scale Topography Key Register. The detailed digital map of the Netherlands, maintained jointly by public bodies.

From practice

Green-space data in order.

As information manager at the City of Amsterdam, Robin initiated and led a project in which the data on more than 76,000 green-space objects was checked and corrected in less than a year, together with TAUW and Swink. By comparing the BGT with the asset management system, supplemented with aerial photos and street-level imagery, only around 400 objects still had to be inspected on site. The investment is expected to pay for itself within two years.

Tree management with data.

At the Dutch Tree Information Day (Boominfodag) 2026, Robin gave the closing lecture on behalf of Nibor NEXT, together with the City of Amsterdam's senior tree adviser. The topic: how inspections of around 300,000 trees can be smarter by combining them, recording data centrally and tracking the full life cycle of a tree digitally, linked to maps and sensor data.

AI for object detection.

At the City of Amsterdam, Robin initiated and led a project in which algorithms were developed with a market partner to recognise trees and other objects in public space from LiDAR scans. That data forms a basis for a digital twin of public space.

Always business-led

What you get from us depends on the question in your organisation. That is why we always start with the business: which decisions need to improve, and which information is missing where the work happens. The technology comes after that.

Questions

What is information management?

Organising how information is recorded, used and maintained in an organisation. It is about data and systems, but above all about agreements: who owns what, which terms apply and how you keep it reliable.

Do you build GIS?

No. We advise on GIS strategy and lead the process. The building is done by your own organisation or a supplier.

Do you help choose and introduce asset management software?

Yes. We help define what the software must do, with the choice and with the introduction, including the agreements on data and ownership that come with it.

Is this only for public space?

No. Information management and data matter in every organisation. Public space management is a specialism.

Do you use AI?

Where it helps, and on two conditions: the question is clear and the data is in order. AI must also be explainable. Every choice the system makes must be possible to explain. If it is not, we do not use it.
